Interested in Assisting the Boy Scouts of America?

November 13, 2009 by: American Citizen Services

boy scoutsThe Boy Scouts of America has over 20 units operating throughout the United Kingdom, from Sussex to Scotland. They could use the help of any interested adults and youth as members and leaders.   2010 is the 100th anniversary of the BSA and they will be working hard to make this celebration special in the home of world scouting.   A major Camporee in April is planned at Gilwell Park in the UK, and a contingent will be sent to the Centennial National Jamboree in the United States.   All the BSA units around the UK are working hard to make this a special year.

The American scouts in the UK can benefit from your experience in many ways, from being a merit badge counsellor to volunteering as a unit leader to providing one-time help with an event like the Centennial Camporee.   You don’t need have been a scout, or to have children to be a part of this.  Just be willing to help boys have fun while developing into better citizens.   If you are interested in helping as an adult volunteer or have boys interested in joining a unit, please contact District Executive, Tony Dvorak, at todvorak@bsamail.org or District Commissioner, Dave Dittmer, at d.dittmer@manw.nato.int.

For this and other organizations of interest to the American ex-pat community, please see our list at http://london.usembassy.gov/cons_new/acs/scs/american_organizations_in_the_united_kingdom.html.

Hi I already help run 1st Redditch scout group here in worcestershire. Last month while in Arizona I hooked up with a cub group and a scout group which we hope to make penpal links and act as our transatlantic scouting group.
I would love to get details of american groups in uk especially scouts at military bases as we were in correspondance with some guys in iraq last year . It would be good to be able to celebrate july 4th with some if we can get a link.
The scouts we met with were awesome and supplied celebratory badges. I also am aware of explorers who wish to make links at some stage.
