Notary Services

Notary services are provided by appointment only, to American and non-American citizens, who need to have documents notarized for use in the United States. Appointments cannot be made by telephone and you will not be admitted to the Embassy for a notary service without an appointment.

American Citizen Services & Visa Applicants with Flu-Like Symptoms

If you have an American citizen service appointment or visa appointment and you are experiencing flu-like symptoms which you believe may be related to the H1N1 Flu, please do not come to the U.S. Embassy, London. We will provide priority re-scheduling of your appointment should you need to cancel for this reason as follows:-
 • To reschedule U.S. Passport and Citizenship services
 • To reschedule U.S. Special Consular Services appointments
 • To reschedule Visa appointments

Due to government regulations, we cannot notarize/legalize/authenticate the following:

• U.S. State-issued documents for use in other countries (e.g. U.S. birth, marriage, death certificates)
• W-7 Individual Taxpayer Identification Numbers (ITINs)
• Medallion Signature Guarantees (PDF, 50Kb, updated 03/09)
• U.S. academic credentials
• Form I-864 (Affidavit of Support)
• Certified copies ("true copies") of original non-U.S. documents (i.e., UK passports)

You Must Bring:

• Your passport as means of personal identification, and
• Evidence of a name change if the name in your passport differs from the name on the documents you wish to have notarized.
• The appropriate fee: $30.00 for the first signature/seal, $20.00 for each additional signature/seal. Payment may be made in Pounds Sterling, U.S. Dollars, or by credit card (Visa or Mastercard ONLY). Personal checks are not accepted.

You may also use the two-step British system to notarize documents for use in the United States. You may want to consider this alternative if an appointment is not available at the Embassy on your preferred date.

Book your appointment now! You can only book on days shaded yellow. The Embassy is closed on all UK and U.S. public holidays.)

Keep In Mind:

• Each person signing must have an appointment.
• Once you have booked, print and bring with you a copy of the "Appointment Details" page.
• Arrive no more than 30 minutes early and no more than 30 minutes late for your appointment. If you are earlier or later than this, you will be turned away.
• To cancel an appointment, please click here; if you need to cancel but do not have your appointment password, send an email to LondonNotary@state.gov with your full name and appointment date and time in the subject line. To re-schedule, first cancel your existing appointment, then schedule a new appointment.
