Law Firms in the United Kingdom

The U.S. Embassy London, United Kingdom, assumes no responsibility or liability for the professional ability or reputation of, or the quality of services provided by, the following persons or firms. Inclusion on this list is in no way an endorsement by the Department of State or U.S. Embassy London. Names are listed alphabetically, and the order in which they appear has no other significance. The information in the list on professional credentials, areas of expertise, and language ability are provided directly by persons/firms.

In English and Welsh practice, the legal profession is divided into two quite separate categories: Barristers and Solicitors. The primary function of the former is to argue cases before the higher courts. All other legal work is handled by solicitors, and only a solicitor can retain a barrister. Although there are exceptions to this general rule whereby American citizens may hire a barrister directly, only solicitors are named in the attached list.

The Solicitors Act (1974) permits all Solicitors to act as Commissioners for Oaths.

Lists of solicitors practicing in Scotland and Northern Ireland are available from the U.S. Consulates General at Edinburgh and Belfast, respectively.

Note: The telephone numbers for evenings and weekends included in this list are for use only in emergencies outside of normal office hours.

The list below is provided in PDF format to maintain the layout when printed and requires the free Adobe Acrobat viewer.
