Police Certificates

If you or accompanying member(s) of your family applying for a visa have resided in another country or countries, certificates covering residences of twelve months or more must be obtained (the period is six months if country of birth or current nationality). Generally, application for such certificates should be made directly to police authorities in the district in which you resided.

Applicants who have resided in the United States are not required to furnish a police certifiate to cover their period of residence as a clearance will be obtained on their behalf by the Department of State.

Note: Police certificates from certain countries are either obtained on the applicant's behalf by the Department of State or are currently unavailable. Please visit the Department of State's website for further information. If you are required to have your fingerprints taken in connection with an application for a police certificate, the U.K. police authorities may be able to assist you. Residents of London or Greater London should contact the Metropolitan Police. Please visit their website for further information http://www.met.police.uk/scd/specialist_units/fingerprint_services.htm . Residents outside of the Greater London area should refer to the attached list for the location of the nearest police force able to assist them.
