Warden Messages
01 September 2006 Warden Message from U.S. Embassy London
The U.S. Embassy, in coordination with Democrats Abroad UK and Republicans Abroad UK, will hold an absentee voter registration drive on Wednesday, September 6 from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Benjamin Franklin House in central London. Americans who will be living in the United Kingdom during this mid-term election will be able to receive assistance to register with their voting district in the United States. All seats in the US House of Representatives, one-third of the US Senate, and a number of state and local positions are up for election this year. Many primaries have already been held, but a number remain, while deadlines for requesting ballots for state elections are fast approaching. Absentee voters unable to make the Ben Franklin House event can visit http://www.fvap.gov or http://london.usembassy.gov to download forms and get instructions on how to register with each state.
The Benjamin Franklin House (http://www.benjaminfranklinhouse.org), where the American inventor and diplomat lived from 1757 to 1775, is located at 36 Craven Street, close to Trafalgar Square in central London (see http://www.benjaminfranklinhouse.org/site/sections/visit/location.htm for directions and a map). No ticket will be required for entry to the House, which, during this voter registration drive, will be open only to American citizens showing a U.S. passport.
