29 December 2007 Warden Message from U.S. Embassy London
Closure of the Embassy in memory of President Gerald Ford
On Tuesday, January 2, the U.S. Embassy in London, including the Consular Section's American Citizen Services (ACS) unit and the visa units, will be CLOSED. Normal Embassy operations will resume on Wednesday, January 3.
During the ACS unit closure, emergencies involving American citizens may be reported to the Embassy switchboard at 20) 7499-9000. A Consular Duty Officer is available 24 hours a day.
The Embassy closure is in accordance with President Bush's designation of January 2 as a National Day of Mourning in memory of the late President Gerald Ford. The President has called on Americans "to assemble on that day in their respective places of worship, there to pay homage to the memory of President Ford".
"I invite the people of the world who share our grief to join us in this solemn observance," he said in an official proclamation.
President Bush has also ordered that U.S. flags, including those at U.S. Embassies and Consulates overseas, be lowered to half-staff for 30 days from the day of President Ford's death.
If you wish to leave a message of condolence, there are two options: via the Embassy’s online form, or by coming to 7 North Audley Street in person and signing the condolence book. Those wishing to send a condolence message online may visit the following website: http://london.usembassy.gov/condolence_ford.html .
For those wishing to sign in person, a condolence book will be available at 7 North Audley Street, London, W1K 6AL, on Friday, December 29, and Tuesday, January 2, from 10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.
