Introductions

Long gone are the days of cultural attaches bringing high art to the high-minded it seems, and upon us are the days of snickering when seeing the words “American” and “culture” in the same sentence.  Often the first question I get when I tell people about my current job — and many times it’s not a question but an indignant statement – is, “What do you mean by American culture?”   The more diplomatic types delicately ask, “What does a cultural officer do exactly?” as if they feel they should know and are slightly ashamed that they don’t.

Culture is a term of art really.  But, we’re all going broke anyway these days, and who can even afford art?  (cf: the Affordable Art Fair v Freize v the rest of us).

More to come…

  1. If you do have money you can buy art on the cheap if you look around for estate sales and such.

  2. All countries have culture, art is a big way culture is expressed.
Sadly today people are having to be concerned with just getting by,therefore culture is getting lost in this way of living.
So many traditions become lost in times like these.
