Form I-601 - Application for a Waiver of Ground of Inadmissibility
Filing the Application
In certain circumstances, individuals who have been found ineligible for an immigrant
visa under the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA) may file an Application for Waiver of Ground of Inadmissibility (Form I-601). The I-601 and the Extreme Hardship Statements (PDF, 16Kb)are
filed with the U.S. Consular Officer at the Embassy where the beneficiary of the
petition applied for his/her Immigrant Visa. The Consular Officer then will
send the I-601 application and all the required supporting documentation to the U.S.
Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) office with jurisdiction for adjudicating
the application. If the waiver is approved, USCIS will send an approval
notification to the appropriate Embassy for issuance of the immigrant visa. If
the waiver is denied, the applicant will be notified in writing of that decision
and provided instructions for submitting an appeal.
Jurisdiction for adjudicating the I-601 Application
The London Field Office of U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services has jurisdiction
for adjudicating I-601 applications submitted to the Immigrant Visa Section at
U.S. Embassies in the following countries: (1) United Kingdom; (2) Republic of
Ireland; (3) Iceland; (4) Sweden; (5) Norway; (6) Denmark; and (7) Finland.
Tracking the status of your I-601 On-Line
Applicants can track the status of their pending I-601 applications submitted
to the London Field Office for adjudication. Applicants will need their Immigrant
Visa Case Number, (e.g. DBL2009 000 000, CPN2009 000 000, HLS2009 000 000, LND2009
000 000, OSL2009 000 000, RYJ2009 000 000, STK2000 000 000) to be able to use this

Processing of The I-601
- Upon receipt of the I-601 package, USCIS will send a postcard via email or
post to the applicant confirming when the I-601 was filed with the USCIS London
Field Office.
- If you do not see your case number listed on our tracking system; this will
mean that this office has not yet received your I-601 package from the U.S. Consular
Officer where you had applied for the immigrant visa. In this case, you
will need to contact the U.S. Consular Officer to ascertain the status of your
application.
- We ask that you please refrain from contacting this office for status checks
while your application is pending. Your cooperation will help us ensure that
we maintain our exceptional processing times.
