19 September 2007 Conference for American Leaders in the UK
As part of a multi-faceted outreach strategy, London’s Consular Section hosted its second conference of leaders within the American expat community in the UK at the Embassy on
September 19.
Ambassador Tuttle gave the audience an update on key events affecting the community, the Embassy and the bilateral relationship. The program also included sessions where the Consular section, IRS and Federal
Benefits office explained the services they provide for American citizens and others, and a briefing from Country Team representatives explaining the role of the Embassy and how its diplomats work to support U.S. interests in the UK and multilaterally.
An over riding theme of the event was the importance the Embassy placed on supporting, and communicating effectively with, the American community in the UK. DCM Richard LeBaron highlighted the important role that non-official Americans play in building bridges of understanding and addressed the continuing strength of the special relationship that exits between the U.S. and UK. The event was followed by a reception hosted by the DCM. The Consular Section also reaches out to the American community via monthly newsletters, bi-monthly web chats and speaking at external events.
