26 June 2009 Quartet Statement from the Meeting in Trieste  The Quartet affirmed its determination to actively and vigorously seek a comprehensive resolution of the Arab-Israeli conflict, on the basis of UN Security Council Resolutions 242, 338, 1397, 1515, 1850, the Madrid principles including land for peace, the Roadmap, and the agreements previously reached between the parties.

Speaking to reporters at the State Department June 16, Mitchell said Obama and Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton clearly have stated that “the only viable resolution to this conflict is for the aspirations of both sides to be met through two states.”

15 June 2009 U.S. Welcomes Israeli Leader's Endorsement of Palestinian State  The U.S. welcomes Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s endorsement of the goal of establishing a Palestinian state, describing it as an "important step forward," and says President Obama will continue working with Israel, the Palestinians and others to achieve a two-state solution, as well as a comprehensive regional peace between Israel and its neighbors.

10 June 2009 U.S. Seeks Rapid Resumption of Middle East Peace Talks  The United States seeks a quick resumption and an early conclusion to the Israeli-Palestinian peace talks, U.S. Special Envoy George Mitchell says. Mitchell’s visit to the West Bank city of Ramallah, the headquarters of the Palestinian Authority, is part of President Obama’s efforts to reinvigorate negotiations that ultimately would lead to the creation of a Palestinian state living at peace alongside Israel — often referred to as the "two-state solution."

At a brief press conference May 22 at the Presidential Palace in Baabda, east of the Lebanese capital Beirut, Biden said that he was not there to offer support for any particular political party or candidate.

18 May 2009 Obama, Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu Discuss Peace Process  President Obama and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu discussed the stalled Israeli-Palestinian peace talks, Iran’s pursuit of a nuclear weapons program and strengthening the U.S.-Israeli relationship in their first meeting as heads of state.

Both Obama and Netanyahu acknowledged that for peace to be achieved, peace talks must resume.

There are obligations to be met by all parties to bring peace efforts to a successful conclusion, Biden said, and those include the Palestinian Authority’s fight against terror and incitement against Israel, and Israel’s work toward a two-state solution with the Palestinians and an end to its building of settlements.
