Secretary Clinton, along with Northern Ireland First Minister Peter Robinson and deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness, welcomed 44 students from schools across the city of Derry to the State Department on St. Patrick's Day.
The Secretary and the two First Ministers had just concluded their meeting and came down to greet the group together. The students have been in the U.S. since March 12th at the invitation of Maryland Governor Martin O'Malley, and have been performing at schools and other venues across the state of Maryland and the Washington, D.C. area.
Secretary Clinton spent several minutes talking with the students and their teachers and mentioned how inspired she was by their continuing efforts at peace and reconciliation in Northern Ireland. The students then presented her with a DVD and a note from Nobel Laureate John Hume, who was instrumental in organizing the group's visit to the U.S.
