Statement by Secretary Clinton on the January 8 attack on PSNI office

Hillary Rodham Clinton
Secretary of State

Washington, DC

“The United States strongly condemns this morning's bombing that critically wounded a serving member of the Police Service of Northern Ireland. My thoughts and prayers are with the officer and his family.

This was an attack on the hard-won peace and progress achieved by the people of Northern Ireland, exemplified by this week's announcement of weapons decommissioning by the Ulster Defense Association. As First Minister Peter Robinson and Deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness have said, the actions of a small number of unrepresentative, violent criminals will not deter those in Northern Ireland who have shown leadership in pursuing peace, nor will they influence the wider society that has supported this progress. ‪The United States remains resolute in our support of the political process and the men and women of the PSNI”.
