Passport Services

Passport Services by Mail

You may renew your passport by mail in the following circumstances:

  • You are 18 years of age or more; and

  • your most recent passport was issued when you were at least 16 years of age; and

  • your most recent passport was issued within the last 15 years; and

  • you are recognizable from the photograph in the expired/expiring passport; and

  • your most recent passport was not limited i.e. it was issued for its full validity; and

  • you are able to submit the passport with the application; and

  • you are not requesting a change in the passport data, other than a name change through marriage and you are able to submit the original or a certified copy (not a photocopy) of your marriage certificate.

If you are eligible to apply for passport renewal by mail, send the following by Royal Mail Special Delivery to Passport Services, U.S. Consulate General, Danesfort House, 223 Stranmillis Road, Belfast, BT9 5GR:

  • Application form DS-82; and
  • Two passport photographs that conform to our specifications; and
  • The expired or expiring passport; and
  • The fee for passport renewal by mail is $75. You may submit either a bank draft or an international money order in dollars made payable to the "U.S. Disbursing Officer", or a completed and signed Credit Card Authorization Form; and
  • A prepaid Royal Mail Special Delivery envelope for the return of your passport.

Allow a minimum of ten working days for passport processing.


Name Change through Marriage by Mail

Effective September 26, 2005, as an additional security enhancement, passports will no longer be amended to change items appearing on the data page of existing passports. It will, therefore, be necessary for you to apply for a new passport if changing your name through marriage.

If you meet all the above criteria for passport renewal by mail, you can also apply by mail for a new passport because of a name change through marriage. Send the following by Royal Mail Special Delivery to Passport Services, U.S. Consulate General, Danesfort House, 223 Stranmillis Road, Belfast, BT9 5GR:

  • Your current passport; and
  • Two passport photographs that conform to our specifications; and
  • The original or a certified copy (not a photocopy) of your marriage certificate; and
  • Form DS-5504 if your passport was issued less than one year ago; or
  • Form DS-82 if your passport was issued more than one year ago; and
  • There is no fee if the passport was issued less than one year ago. The fee is $75 if the passport was issued more than one year ago. You may submit either a bank draft or an international money order in dollars made payable to the "U.S. Disbursing Officer", or a completed and signed Credit Card Authorization Form; and
  • A prepaid Royal Mail Special Delivery envelope for the return of your passport.

Allow a minimum of ten working days for passport processing.

Request for Additional Pages by Mail

You may submit an application for additional pages by mail if:

  • Your passport is valid; and
  • Your passport is in good condition; and
  • You are able to submit the passport with the application.

To apply for additional pages by mail, send the following by Royal Mail Special Delivery to Passport Services, U.S. Consulate General, Danesfort House, 223 Stranmillis Road, Belfast, BT9 5GR:

  • A completed application form DS-4085; and
  • Your passport; and
  • A prepaid Royal Mail Special Delivery envelope for the return of your passport
  • .

There is no fee. Allow a minimum of five working days for processing.

Children under the age of 16 require the consent of both parents before additional pages can be added. Please telephone 02890-386104 or email consularbelfast@state.gov for further information in this regard.

Applying in Person

Any of the above applications may be submitted in person if you prefer. To schedule an appointment to submit any of the above applications in person, please telephone 02890-386104 or email consularbelfast@state.gov . Appointments are scheduled between 1:30pm and 3:30pm Tuesday through Thursday afternoons with the exception of all American and local public holidays.
