Military Assistance Program (MAP) and Miscellaneous Defense Procurement Inquiries

This section of the ODC has three primary responsibilities:

Facilitation of the Military Assistance Program (MAP)

The MAP accounts for U.S. origin equipment provided under the Marshall Plan and subsequent plans through the 1970's. The ODC is tasked with helping the British close the program in accordance with the original agreements. This involves liaison with the British Ministry of Defence (MoD), U.S. Department of State, and U.S. Department of Defense (DoD).

Contact point for miscellaneous defense equipment

As the contact point for miscellaneous defense equipment, the ODC identifies the proper location for small program defense inquiries. Liaison is primarily with the UK Defense Export Services Organisation (DESO) and the U.S. Small Business Administration.

Conduit for UK Museum Requests

Occasionally the U.S. Government will receive requests from museums wishing to obtain old U.S. origin defense equipment for exhibit. The ODC determines whether a relationship with the organization is feasible. This includes examining the credentials of the museum (must be UK Government sponsored), determining whether the organization will able to maintain the standards of the equipment, and ensuring the relationship will be of no cost to the U.S. Government. If a relationship occurs, final disposal of the equipment is still followed according to the original agreements under which the equipment was transferred.
