<itunes:summary>The Smithsonian Institution's Folklife Festival is an annual event that has showcased different cultures and traditions on Washington's National Mall since 1967. It was decided that Northern Ireland would be a dominant theme for 2007 and an estimated 40 million Americans watched or read about it through the mass media. Northern Ireland was represented by some the very finest ambassadors in the arts, agriculture, trade and industry, sport and academia. Many were not fortunate enough to witness the remarkable scenes that were evident on the National Mall from June 27 - July 8. For Northern Ireland, the securing of devolved government meant that the Smithsonian event could not have come at a better time. For Christine McIvor it also brought some unique experiences, perspectives, and benefits.</itunes:summary>
