11 September 2007 Remembering 9/11
Our minds turn once again to the tragic events of September 11, 2001. Time continues to pass, but we know the pain of that day remains undiminished for the families affected.
At home and abroad, we continue to honor their memory, not only in acts of remembrance on this day, but every day in the work we do, to defeat those who claimed 3,000 lives six years ago and continue to wreak havoc around the world.
We work to strengthen our defenses against current and future threats, we strive alongside our allies to counter continuing extremism, and we seek new relationships that we hope will encourage positive change in the future.
Ours is a never-ending task because the tools of the terrorist are not the debate and discussion of a free society but those of death and destruction.
For those we remember today, we will continue that work patiently, and carefully, though always mindful that our cause is not only for those we have lost, but for those who remain and come after, and look to us to secure their future.
