Open for application processing and services Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:00am to 1:00pm on a walk-in basis.
You must book an appointment for the following services:
- Consular Report of Birth Abroad;
- first time U.S. passport application without citizenship documentation;
- notary services.
Please e-mail Edinburgh-Info@state.gov, with details of the service you require, to request an appointment. If you arrive at the Consulate for one of these services without an appointment you will be turned away.
Appointments are not required for any other service.
PLEASE NOTE CHANGES TO SERVICE HOURS:
- Week beginning Monday June 1. Consular services will be provided on Wednesday June 3 and Thursday June 4. There will be no walk-in service on Tuesday June 2.
- Week beginning Monday July 20. The U.S. Consulate General in Edinburgh will be unable to provide U.S. passport or notarial services on Tuesday July 21 or Thursday July 23. These services can be provided at the U.S. Embassy in London, by prior appointment. If you feel you require U.S. passport or notarial services on July21 or 23, on an emergency basis, please contact

The U.S. Consulate in Edinburgh does NOT process any type of immigrant or non-immigrant visas. We cannot accept telephone or e-mail inquiries about visas, work permits, green cards, or immigration.
