September 11 Remembered
Grosvenor Square Tree Planting to Honor Victims of September 11

Reverend Desmond Tillyer, Lt. Frank Dwyer, NYPD, Ambassador Farish, and the Lord Mayor of Westminster

In memory of those who lost their lives on September 11, Ambassador William S. Farish and the Lord Mayor of Westminster, Councillor Frances Blois, planted two North American Sweet Gum trees in the Traffic Island Site on Grosvenor Square on Tuesday, 10 September at 3:00PM.

The tree planting, the initiative of Westminster Tree Trust, opened with a prayer led by the Lord Mayor's Chaplin, the Reverend Desmond Tillyer. The Westminster Tree Trust Chairman Julian Maslinski introduced the Ambassador and Lord Mayor who each made remarks and planted a tree. A commemorative plaque was then unveiled by Chairman Maslinski.

Remarks by Ambassador William S. Farish

It is an honor to help plant these trees in memory of the victims of September 11th, and as a symbol of the friendship between our two countries.

Last year, people, shocked by the terrorist attacks on America, flooded here by the thousands to leave flowers and messages of their sympathy and support.

These trees, as they grow, will be yet another testament to the enduring ties between the U.S. and the U.K., and we thank the Trust and the Lord Mayor for these gifts.

In closing I want to give particular thanks to Frank Dwyer for being here: You honor us with your presence.
