07 July 2006 Ambassador Tuttle Greets Thousands of Britons Celebrating America
On July 7, Ambassador Tuttle attended the Americana International Festival in Newark-on-Trent, Nottinghamshire. He addressed an audience of about 20,000 at this celebration of American rock and country music, automobiles and other elements of American culture and history. The Ambassador thanked attendees for their appreciation of the United States and things American; noting that it is such appreciation and the people-to-people relationships it fosters that makes the U.S.-UK relationship special. U.S. Embassy London sponsored performances of Native American music and dance at the festival, as well as the screening of two documentary films on the history and social impact of U.S. Route 66 - the first U.S. interstate highway running from Chicago to Los Angeles that opened up the western United States in the new age of the automobile. The Festival attracted over 70,000 visitors over the course of three days.
