If you were born in Great Britain you may still be eligible to register as there are two other ways in which you may qualify.

If you have a spouse and s/he was born in a qualifying country, you can claim your spouse’s place of birth, provided both you and your spouse are on the selected entry, are issued visas and enter the United States similtaneously. Alternatively, if  neither of your parents were born or resident in the United Kingdom at the time of your birth, you may claim your parents’s place of birth, if it is a country which qualifies for DV-2011.

Successfully registered entries will result in the display of a confirmation screen containing the applicant’s name and confirmation number, which can be printed.  The confirmation page will also provide information the entrant must use to electronically check the status of their entry.  All successful entrants will be notified by regular mail of their succesful entry.  Those who keep their confirmation page information will also be able to check their entry status on-line.

The following is a list of ineligible countries:  Brazil, Canada, China (mainland born), Colombia, the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Haiti, India, Jamaica, Mexico, Pakistan, Peru, the Philippines, Poland, South Korea, the United Kingdom (except N. Ireland) and its dependent territories and Vietnam.  

Important Reminder:  There is only one official U.S. government website http://www.dvlottery.state.gov.  There are many fraudulent websites posing as official U.S. government sites and charging fees to register.  The U.S. government does not charge a registration fee.  If you find yourself on a site that is charging a fee, do not contine with your registration.  Log off and go to http://www.dvlottery.state.gov.  The site will be available during the registration period only – noon (EDT) October 2, 2009 until noon (EST) November 30, 2009.
