Applying for a U.S. visa in 2010?

4 January 2010 by: visaservices

Latest News The U.S. Embassy is to introduce the new web-based nonimmigrant visa application form DS-160. Applicants applying for petition based visas – H, L, O, P, Q or R – in person on or after February 1, 2010 will be required to complete the new form DS-160. For all other applicants, March 1 is the all important date.
The DS-160 is web-based and once completed, transmits the applicant’s data to the post where s/he will apply for the visa. As the data is collected electronically, it means that we will be able to conduct various forms of pre-processing and pre-screening in advance of the application which should reduce processing delays. It also means that applicants who apply for visas on a frequent basis can save their original application and simply submit the updated form.

    The fees charged vary.

Nonimmigrant visa applicants (including K visa applicants) are required to pay an MRV fee of $131 to cover the costs involved in processing the visa application. Some nationalities (does not apply to K visa applicants) are required to pay an issuance fee which is based on reciprocity and reflects the fees charged by the applicant’s government for the same service to a U.S. citizen. Please visit the Department of State’s website at http://www.travel.state.gov for further information.

Immigrant Visa applicants pay a processing fee of $400.00 per visa applicant. This is in addition to the fee paid to file a petition with the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services – see http://www.uscis.gov for further information. Diversity immigrant visa applicants pay an additional surcharge of $375 and in the case of family based applicants applying for a visa through the National Visa Center, the petitioner pays an affidavit fee. Finally all immigrant visa and K visa applicants pay a fee for the medical examination which is £190 for applicants aged 15 and over and £95 for applicants aged 14 and under.
